Arnold Oscar “Bud” Thoen was born May 19, 1927, to Oscar and Annie (Anderson) Thoen on a farm near Farwell ,Minn.

In 1955, he married Pat Brown in Minneapolis, Minn., and they moved to Kalispell, Mont. Their daughter Candy was the first baby born there in 1956.

The new family of three moved back to Minnesota in April of that year, eventually settling in Minneapolis, Minn., where their son Randy was born in 1958.

In 1964, they moved to Alexandria, Minn., where Bud started Douglas Machine Corporation. God abundantly blessed Bud in his business efforts, but Bud’s real passion was for missions and the role they played in the local church.

Bud and Pat built a house in Florida in 1995 and were seasonal residents of Venice, Fla., where Bud also served as Missions Director at New Life Church.

Bud suffered a stroke in 2010, after which he moved to Florida as a permanent resident. He had suffered from dementia since that time until his homegoing on July 6, 2014 at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Englewood, Fla.

Bud is survived by his wife, Pat, of Englewood, Fla.; two children, Candy (Paul) Kush of Englewood, Fla., and Randy (Melody) Thoen of Alexandria, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Marian (Oscar) Engstrom; brother Johnny (Juanita) Thoen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: A Celebration of Life will be held at New Life Church, 5800 South Tamiami Trail, Venice, Fla., July 11, at noon, with reviewal at 11 a.m. Burial is in Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, Fla. Arrangements are with Englewood Community Funeral Home Inc.
