Robert “Bob” Frank Ellison, a 28-year resident of North Port, Fla., passed away Friday, July 4, 2014.
He was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Dallas, Texas, and often told stories of his childhood in Lordsburg, N.M.
Bob joined the U.S. Navy in 1946. As an airman recruit, he was honorably discharged with a World War II Victory Medal, then earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Southwest University in Georgetown, Texas.
He spent his early years working in Tuscon, Ariz., Hawthorne, Nev., and Reno, Nev., before moving to Venice, Fla., working for Sarasota County as a supervisor environmental engineer.
Bob retired and moved to North Port, Fla., in 1986, enjoying camping, boating and fishing.
He was a member of the Silver City (N.M.) Masonic Lodge for 64 years, and was active in Eastern Star with his wife and Rainbow Girls and Jobs Daughters with his children, as well as serving as Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge in Hawthorne, Nev. Bob was also a Past Patron of the Knights Templar in Midland, Texas, and a member of White Shrine and Sons of the American Revolution in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was always active in the Episcopal Church, where he met and married his wife, Patricia, in Tuscon, Ariz., and attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He will be mourned by his daughters, Peggy (Gary Burdahl) de Silva of North Port, Fla., Peri (David) Whiterel of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pamela Wisner of Port Charlotte, Fla; grandchildren, Christopher Lamond, Nathan Lamond and Danny Whiterel; sister-in-law, Helen Ellison; nieces, Susan and Andrea; nephew, James; cousins, Ernestine McWarta and Bill Short; his much loved cats, Cheerio and Li’l Cat; and his caregiver, Lilly O’Brien of Venice. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and his brother, James “Hank” Ellison.
Services: Friends and family will gather for a Life Remembrance Celebration at a later date. Last wishes are being handled by National Cremation Society.
