Joyce (Mix) Meister, 76, of Nokomis, Fla., died on Aug. 12, 2014. She was born on July 14, 1938 in Harvey, Ill. to Floyd and Loraine Mix. She graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, Ill., received a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University in elementary education and a Master of Arts in Religion from Palmer Theological Seminary.

She had two children: Kevin Schoeninger and Karin Schoeninger Waller from her previous marriage.

In 1987, Joyce married Jim Meister and they lived together in Merion, Pa., Peacham, Vt., Islesboro, Maine and Nokomis, Fla.

Joyce was a member of Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church and the Second Baptist Church on Islesboro, Maine. She was a gardener, traveler and avid reader.  She enjoyed time in nature, especially the woods in Maine and walking the beach in Florida. She was open-minded and compassionate. Joyce was passionate about her faith, which she summarized, “God is Love, God is Spirit, God is Everywhere.” She was devoted to her family and to her many friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Loraine Mix. She is survived by her husband, Jim Meister; her children Kevin Schoeninger (Monica Augustine), Karin Waller (Scott); her sister Patti Flanagan (John); her aunt Doris Keller; her stepchildren: Scott Meister (Debra Danielson), Dean Meister (Stephanie) and Lynnette Werning (Dave); her grandchildren, Luke Meister, Greg Schoeninger, Briana Waller, Brandon Waller and Will Schoeninger; great grandchildren DeQuincy Coleman-McRae and Daelyn Coleman-McRae; nephew Keith Flanagan (Gwen) and niece Shannon DeProfio (Chris).

Calling hours are 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, Fla. Memorial service is Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. at Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church at 208 Palm Ave., Nokomis, Fla.
