Prior to this week’s Class 3A-Region 5 tournament at the new Lakewood National Golf & Country Club, Venice High School golfers had a little bit of an idea of what to expect after a handful of practice rounds on the tricky, speedy layout.

But what they weren’t ready for was the coldest day the area has seen since early March and blustery winds that sent scores soaring. Despite their best efforts, the Venice girls and boys squads came up a little short in their bid to lock up a spot in next week’s Class 3A state finals after coming home in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
