Venice outlasts Pirates in thriller

With his team down 24-12 in the early stages of Friday night’s Region 7A-3 semifinal matchup against Braden River, Venice head coach John Peacock had one thing on his mind.

“We have some unbelievable kids and I knew that 12 and 6 (Bryce Carpenter and Jaivon Heiligh’s jersey numbers) weren’t going to let us lose,” Peacock said. “I also knew that our defense wasn’t going to let us lose. I never had a doubt in my mind and never panicked.”
