The talk of future greatness began even before this year’s Venice Indians’ volleyball squad ever took part in a match at the high school level.

Venice showed flashes of things to come last year, then put it all together for a run at a state title this fall. They saved what may have been their best performance of the year in a season full of spectacular showings for the Class 8A state title game against a Tallahassee Leon, where they took a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20) win and locked up the school’s fifth state title since 1998.
