Indians set for rematch with Aquinas

Bryce Carpenter and the Venice Indians will battle St. Thomas Aquinas in Friday night's Class 7A state semifinal at Powell-Davis Stadium.

Venice head coach John Peacock (center) and the Indians - fresh off their first back-to-back regional titles in school history - will host St. Thomas Aquinas in a state semifinal rematch Friday night. The winner will play for the Class 7A state title next weekend.

As soon as the final whistle sounded on Venice’s 48-17 victory over Tampa Bay Tech in last week’s regional title game, talk on the sidelines and in the postgame huddle immediately started about getting ready for a state semifinal rematch that’s been on the Indians’ minds since last year’s finale.

That talk centered around Region 7A-4 champion St. Thomas Aquinas, the three-time defending state champions that stopped Venice with a 46-8 win in last year’s state semifinal.
