All the grit and moxie displayed by the Venice High boys basketball team wasn’t enough to overcome Riverview’s substantial size advantage, as the Rams pulled away late to defeat the Indians, 69-60, Wednesday.

Venice (2-2) cut a 12-point second-half deficit to three on Dillon Marksbury’s 3-pointer with four minutes remaining, but the Indians were unable to get defensive stops when they needed them. Each time the Indians made it a one-possession game, the Rams answered with a bucket of their own. Riverview’s 6’8” forward Nick Havener (21 points) and Austin Walker (16 points) did most of the damage, regularly cleaning up the offensive glass for second-chance points.
