“New” should be the operative word for the Venice Indians boys basketball team this season. The Indians have a great-looking new gym where they’re becoming more comfortable, there is a new addition in guard Dom Marino and there is also their new district, featuring teams out of Lee County instead of their normal rivals from Sarasota and Manatee County.

On Friday night, the Indians won their first game in their new district by beating Island Coast of Cape Coral 60-50. Venice now sits at 1-1 in Class 6A-District 11 play.
