Venice High senior Brandon Elmy showed Friday night why he entered the season as the Indians’ ace, scattering three hits over five scoreless innings as Venice dominated Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 5-0.

The Indians scored all five of their runs in their first four at-bats. Dalton Guthrie led off the bottom of the first with a double into the left-field corner. Scott Dubrule’s groundout moved Guthrie over, and the senior shortstop scored on a passed ball to give Venice all the offense it would need.
