Kovalsky, strong offense power Venice to win

Venice softball pitcher Nikkie Kovalsky has signed a letter of intent to play softball next year at St. Petersburg College in Clearwater. Kovalsky finished with 278 strikeouts this year.

After a second inning where she hit three Riverview Lady Ram hitters with pitches, walked two more hitters and surrendered two runs, Venice pitcher Nikkie Kovalsky said she needed to go in the dugout, take a deep breath and relax a bit.

That little break sparked an explosion. Kovalsky quickly returned to dominating form on her way to an 11-strikeout performance — eight of which came after that second inning — in the Lady Indians 11-2 win over Riverview Tuesday night at the Miss Sarasota Softball Complex in Sarasota.
