On a cool Saturday morning on Feb. 12, 2005, eight people met to take the first step of what I consider a walking group success story. Who would have thought that after nine years, the Saturday Morning Walkabout group would still be clicking off the miles?

Each Saturday at 8 a.m., the group meets at Volunteer Park to log in and prepare for the usual 2.5-mile walk. The log book recently showed the cumulative miles walked by the group, which now has an average of 20 to 25 walkers, surpassing 23,000 miles.
