Powers earns national LPGA teaching award

Venice resident and Pelican Pointe Country Club golf instructor Sue Powers was recently named the LPGA's National Teacher of the Year. The LPGA established the award, which is given annually to the woman golf professional who has most exemplified her profession during the year, in 1958.

About 10 years ago, Venice resident Sue Powers was looking for a career change after working for more than 20 years as an accountant.

She decided that she wanted to give back to the game that gave her so much growing up. So she became a golf instructor.
