Big snook are a high-value target. As with all high-value targets, the rate of failure is significant. For many fishermen, that’s a major factor in their decision to use live bait. But for me, the same factor leads me to choose artificial lures most of the time.
Sure, it’s easier to fool a fish into taking a hook when you’ve got a frisky live bait on the end of your line. But with a lure, I can cover a whole lot more water, giving me a better chance of putting my offering in front of more fish. Plus I can better simulate one of the top things that will get a predatory fish to strike: The action of a dying baitfish.
