There has been a lot going on this last week. Most of this action being weather-related, with Harvey being the prime center of attention. The devastating rain-bearing hurricane that ripped into the Texas Gulf coast last weekend has once again shown us that Mother Nature is definitely a “mutha” to take seriously. After Charley came across the north end of Captiva Island and then plunged into Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte in 2004, it makes me cringe knowing what Harvey has brought to our brothers and sisters of the western side of our pond.
Many people, companies, clubs and organizations have put together donation centers for needed goods and of course monetary donations that will go to aid the Harvey victims. Capt. Daniel Andrews and the gang at Captains for Clean Water jumped right in and are driving a truck full of everyday necessities (bug spray, toothbrushes, diapers, pet food, etc.) that the people of flooded area just can’t get right now. The truck will already be in Texas we this column comes out, but if you feel led in any way to help out, getting in touch with the Red Cross would be a good place to start.
