Society has always attributed wisdom to those who have lived on this planet the longest. The truth is, wisdom doesn’t always come with age. Sometimes age comes alone. Think about your in-laws. But I will admit it was a shock to discover that old men don’t know everything there is to know about one of man’s oldest sports — fishing. Uh-oh. Is it still politically correct to call somebody “old?” Are they now “time-challenged?” I missed the last awareness seminar.

Anyway, on Florida’s coastlines, most retirees pick up their knowledge of fishing from the locals and eventually work it into their own spiel. Which means there are a lot of well-disguised beginners ready to hand out advice.
