It was a beautiful Florida fall day. The morning was bright and crisp. Wildflowers were blooming, bees were buzzing and a group of Venice Area Birding Association members were raring to go on the Curry Creek field trip with Sarasota County naturalist Jeff Weber. Immediately upon arrival, Jeff looked up and spotted an adult bald eagle. After the entire contingency arrived, we started on our hike.
We heard quite a bit of birdsong as we walked. However, the lush tree coverage and thick bushes were good cover and we did not get to see an abundance of birds at first, besides blue jays. Blue jays do not stay hidden, and we heard and spotted quite a few of them on this trip.
