This has been our first prolonged cold spell of the year. If memory serves me correctly, we never had a run of cold like this last year, which pretty much messed up the spawn bite to start the year off. Let’s hope that this cold spell, followed by a gradual increase in temperatures, will be just what we need for a good spawn this year.
If we don’t get a batch of cold weather to officially kick off that transition in water temperature, the spawn bite won’t materialize. I remember our first tournament last year. The fog was so bad I had to delay the start. Once we got out there, the air temperature never got down below 70 degrees. The water temperature was still up around 75 and hadn’t been any colder. That makes it tough to target those bass.
