Can I do this?

There are questions that come up repeatedly in bait shops, at boat ramps and anyplace where anglers meet and discuss fishing. Most of these have been covered here in the past, but here’s a run-through on some of them which will be helpful to newbies — and might serve as a useful refresher for our more seasoned fishermen.

Can I fish with multiple rods? Probably. In general, Florida does not regulate how many rods can be used by an angler. There is one notable exception to this that applies locally: During tarpon fishing season (April, May and June), boats fishing in Boca Grande Pass can deploy no more than three fishing rods at a time. A map which defines the boundaries in which this rule applies can be viewed at https://goo.gl/voccGv. Aside from this seasonal restriction, local saltwater anglers are free to use as many rods as they’d like.
