Pound for pound, jack crevalle might be the most underrated fish in our waters. Which would you rather catch: A 10-pound redfish or a 10-pound jack? Most of you would certainly vote for the redfish.
Why? At 10 pounds, the red is already over the slot (unless you’re one of those tournament fisherman who knows how to resolve that little problem) and will have to be released, so you’re really just fishing for the sport. A 10-pound jack will give you an amazing battle. Reds are fun to catch, but jacks have far more heart. If they would learn to jump, I’m sure they would have sportfish status.
