I am a born and raised Floridian, and I grew up fishing the beautiful waters of Charlotte Harbor. My whole life, I have been on the hunt for a coveted 40-inch-plus redfish. I finally got one.
For the past few weeks, I have been scouting an area that has had some massive red drum foraging in very shallow pockets and depressions on an open flat. Over the last five trips here, I’ve brought more than 10 redfish in the 15- to 20-pound range to the boat. On my Jan. 23 trip, all the stars aligned and I brought the biggest redfish I have ever seen aboard my 24 Bluewave.
