Neither, sleet nor snow nor pouring rain …

The drive to meet Deb Johnson at Home Depot was through pouring rain. I truly was not sure our birding trip to Carlton Preserve in Sarasota County was still a go. The T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Preserve was purchased in 1982 for water supply as well as for conservation and passive recreation. This huge property on the southwest corner of Myakka River State Park, once used for cattle range and turpentine operations, consists of almost 25,000 acres — that’s nearly 40 square miles. Nature enthusiasts, bikers, birders and hikers are really lucky to have this wonderful diverse area to enjoy.
