Back when I worked at a beach as a kayak and stand-up paddleboard instructor and doing rentals, I’d frequently have a moment or so where I could just sit back and people-watch. Mostly I’d keep an eye on my renters and watch how they were sitting, paddling, lying back with their legs hanging over the sides, etc.
One day a young man and his girlfriend caught my eye. They were just inside the breakwall, which wasn’t that far from shore. As I watched through binoculars, I happened to notice that the U.S. Coast Guard was out on their 25-foot RBS (Response Boat-Small) doing some training. Good thing, as it turned out.
