Some kayakers think, “Why bother to wear a life jacket ? I can swim!” So they end up stowing it in the bow of the sea kayak, or using it for a cushion for their back.
Bad, bad plan. I wear mine no matter what. When I get aboard my friends’ sailboats, catamarans or powerboats, I wear my PFD. When I go out kayaking, as soon as I step out of the car, I’m putting on my PFD. I can also swim, except that I get really tired when I have to swim against a ripping current or a strong wind (and sometimes both). Just out of curiosity, how long can you swim against those before your arms are ready to give out and you’re out of breath?
