Summer is here and everyone knows what that means — it’s tarpon time. With tarpon making their big migration to Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande Pass, it’s time to bring out the big tackle.
Most tarpon anglers like to use a 7.5- to 8-foot rod for better casting. We’re usually using small baits for these fish, and being able to cast them at a far distance is a huge advantage. When you’re looking at rods, check the line class rating. A 15-30 or 20-40 rating is ideal.
