The kings are here. Well, some kings are here anyway. Our experience with this spring’s king mackerel run has been a bit odd, with fish sporadically appearing, then disappearing, then showing back up again. We haven’t encountered any big surge of kings yet, though we’ve been picking away at them for the past couple of months.
That’s right, there were kings in the area two months ago, probably spurred into an early beginning to their spring run by all that warm weather we enjoyed during February. February’s unusually springlike weather was then followed by a roller-coaster ride of up-and-down weather in March and part of April, which was probably responsible for the ensuing start-stop-start again action on kings.
