Fishing has been great during our change to spring. Snook are slowly making their way toward the beaches via the rivers, creeks and backcountry. Trout are everywhere over grass in 4 to 5 feet of water. Mackerel have been showing up, cutting leaders and stealing flies — and those that weren’t so lucky found their way to my smoker.
All the supporting cast of ladyfish, jacks, pompano and the like have been doing a great job as rod bending entertainment. Redfish? What redfish? Yes I have been seeing and catching a few, but they have been few and far between for me. Last but not least, the resident and migratory tarpon are ready and willing to play.
