Southwest Region: There is a bloom of Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, along the southwest coast of Florida. The bloom was first detected from samples taken at Manasota Beach on Monday, September 26. During the week, samples collected alongshore of Sarasota and Charlotte counties and offshore of Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee counties contained concentrations of K. brevis ranging from not present to high. Background concentrations of Karenia brevis were found in samples collected alongshore of Pinellas County and Manatee Counties.
