“Should I get a .380 or a 9mm for self-defense?” “Can I shoot 9mm ammo in my .380?” These are questions we get almost daily at Higher Power Outfitters. The confusion exists because the bullets are the same diameter, but these two calibers are not the same.

Let me first address what the current issue in the industry as a whole. As most avid shooters know, it has been a struggle (to say the least) to get ammunition. In most cases, even the largest box stores out there can’t get it. The connections we have in the industry are directly involved with Federal Ammunition (ATK). We have been told the lack of ammo will continue for at least the next 18 to 30 months while prices continue to climb due to manufacturing and materials costs increasing. The .380 ACP is much more difficult to get currently than 9mm ammo.
