There’s a debate in the fishing world regarding fishing tournaments. Some people say they’re fantastic because they provide anglers a chance to fish competitively and prove their skills to their fellow fishermen. Others say they’re a problem because they bring out the worst in fishermen, driving them to win at any cost and turning them into the biggest jerks on the water.
The truth is that they’re both right. Tournaments can be terrible or they can be great. What makes the difference? The people who are running it and the people who are participating in it. Tournaments that are more about fun and less about serious competition are the ones that are more likely to be great ones. In that kind of event, it’s OK to fail a little bit. You can relax — it’s not all about winning.
