It’s easy to get arrogant and take all this great fishing we have for granted, but humility is an asset we can’t afford to lose. Even as a captain with 40 years of practice, some days the fish win. It’s been a long road, but I finally understand that fun is important, and easier, to happen.
We enjoy seasons where fish and business are great — like now! We can get spoiled briefly by success, but fishing usually humbles pride and egos. Catching requires effort, preparation, effective equipment and a little good luck. As a captain, I can control the boat, gear and tackle, but not the weather — especially during the winter months.
