The first thing I ever learned about sheepshead is that they hang out close to pilings. So for years I dedicated my technique to dropping bait straight down in front of a piling and keeping it there. When using this technique you keep the current to your back, so if you weren’t using the piling to block it the current would carry your bait away from the pier.

I swore by this method and can attest to its effectiveness. But there is another way. Maybe even a better way.
