This time of year is great to get out there and do some night fishing. Now, I know many people are going to balk at the idea of fishing the Harbor at night, and that’s the very reason I enjoy it. There is hardly anyone else on the water. People are afraid of the dark, I guess. And when people find out that I run the flats at night…oh, I can’t print some of their words describing my mental status.
Getting over the fear of driving a boat in the Harbor at dusk isn’t that hard. Heck, you’re usually safer on the flats than you are the Harbor. There isn’t anything to hit on the flats. In the Harbor, you have dozens of channel markers that aren’t lit, and are so covered in salt spray and bird excrement that they don’t reflect light anymore. And if you are having trouble getting used to fishing at night, there are a few ways to fish to ease your nerves.
