Paddleboarding is a very leisurely experience in our local waterways. However, the weather can throw a curveball at paddlers. Sea breezes and strong gusts can create a challenge for even the most experienced paddlers. Learning how to paddle in the wind is a skill that takes some time and technique to master. Paddleboarding is a relatively easy sport to learn, and skills are enhanced quickly. For more enjoyable experiences on the water, learn about the sport, paddling and safety.

Our local weather pattern changes in the spring, and a breeze is noticeable in the afternoons. An increase in the wind can be tough to paddle out of when standing on a board. An important tip is to kneel, or sit, when the wind picks up. Avoiding afternoon paddling is best for beginners, and mornings are encouraged for water safety. A few tips are helpful for beginners and paddlers that venture out on our waterways alone.
