Paddleboarding is a very leisurely experience in our local waterways. However, the weather can throw a curveball at paddlers. Sea breezes and strong gusts can create a challenge for even the most experienced paddlers. Learning how to paddle in the wind is a skill that takes some time and technique to master. Our local weather pattern changes in the spring, and a breeze is noticeable in the afternoons. An increase in the wind can be tough to paddle out of when standing on a board. An important tip is to kneel, or sit, when the wind picks up. Avoiding afternoon paddling is best for beginners, and mornings are encouraged for water safety.
