Smiles galore at Sharks Tooth tourney

This years event was dedicated in the memory of JT Depres who was a Special Olympic athlete who participated in the last 11 years. He past away a few months ago before the event.

For the past 22 years, the annual Sharks Tooth Festival has taken place in Venice each spring. But for the past 11 years, a special event has preceded the festival. And once again, the Special Olympic Sharks Tooth Fishing Tournament gave everybody big smiles and a reason to look forward to next year.

“The idea behind doing this event was to make a special fun day for the athletes to remember — a day that they could go out on a boat to fish and come back with huge smiles on their faces,” Venice Police Marine officer and organizer of the tournament Paul Joyce says. “We thought that this would give them the chance to do something that they might not be able to do everyday.”
