At Fishin’ Frank’s, we get a lot of shark questions. The big one: “What gear should I use?” Believe it or not, it’s the hardest question to answer. It depends on whether you fish from shore or a boat. That is the easiest place to begin. Then next you should look at how big a shark you plan on landing. Notice I said “landing” and not “catching.” Those are two entirely different things.
Catching a big shark is different than landing a big shark. You can catch a big shark on your snook rod but chances are you’re not going to land it. So if you want to land big sharks, you need bigger gear, especially if you plan on fishing from shore. If you plan on targeting smaller shark, then you can stick with smaller and, more importantly, cheaper tackle.
