Live whiting are the bait of choice for many anglers chasing cobia around Charlotte Harbor. Hooking right in front of the dorsal fin, as shown, is a good way to fish them.

It doesn’t matter how good the fishing is, if you don’t have the right bait you won’t be catching.

Catching live bait is an art in itself, and no matter how you do it you better make sure it gets done in a timely manner or your whole day will be wasted before you know it. So from using sabiki rigs for pinfish to throwing castnets on whitebait to casting pieces of shrimp on a small hook for whiting, this time of year is all about the bait.
