The dependable dinghy

Whether thinking about a first sailboat or about to give up sailing, a small open sailboat (dinghy) might be your best move. Seriously! It’s said that old sailors don’t die, they just get a little “dinghy.” The inference is to become crazy. Not to seem defensive, but I hope to make a case for sailing a dinghy. I believe getting to that state is better than not sailing …stick with me.

Like most, I learned to sail in small boats as a youth. And like many, income and recreational time increased about age 40. A small used sailboat made “sense” for family recreation in those long summer afternoons up north. Never one to leave well enough alone, the addiction led to a progression of ever larger boats: 18, 23, 30, and then 37 feet. The larger two became race boat cum summer cottages. House location changed to support the addiction.
