Dolphins are cute. They just are. But dolphins can also be a nuisance to fishermen. They tend to eat whatever we are fishing for, and sometimes steal fish from right under our noses. So when I recently spotted one meandering along the east wall of the Harbor, I had mixed emotions — I do a lot of kayak fishing on the east wall, and when I see dolphins, I make it a habit to paddle elsewhere. The Harbor is big enough for the both of us.
But something was weird about this dolphin. More specifically, its dorsal fin seemed to have a hole in it. I decided to trail it for a few minutes, and sure enough, the little bugger’s fin was ripped in half down the middle. I dubbed him “Halfy.”
