There are times when nothing goes your way. You put in all the time to practice, you locate some fish, the weather cooperates — and on the day of the tournament, you can’t catch a fish. No matter what bait you throw, you just can’t get a decent fish in the boat. This pretty much describes my last tournament.
I have never been on Lake Hernando before and, by all indications, it was going to be a tough day of fishing. This lake is very clear and pretty deep. When you see those types of conditions in summer, the fishing can be pretty tough, especially if you are not familiar with the water in the first place. I set out for a day of practice not knowing what to expect. I stopped at a bait and tackle shop right by the ramp and asked the guy inside how the fishing had been. He asked what I was fishing for. When I told him we had a bass tournament the following day, he just laughed and said the lake was about “fished out” for bass.
