If you’re a regular reader of my column, you probably have a passion for fishing. That’s a great thing — I have a passion for fishing too. But I’ve got a question for you: Where did it come from? Someone must have sparked that love of the sport in you. You father? Grandpa? Maybe your favorite aunt, or even a childhood friend.
The point is that even if you have an interest in something — and most kids really enjoy pulling on a fish — it takes someone who has a true passion for that activity to light a lifelong fire in someone else. For me, it was the fishing trip with my dad and my uncle when I caught a 3-pound bass. I was only three years old, and we took nightcrawlers and put them out under bobbers. That fish is hanging on my wall to this day.
