Guns in the classroom

Should we arm teachers at our public schools in order to protect our kids from tragic incidents similar to the ones that happened at several public schools throughout our country? Wow! Talk about a controversial topic. I had better tread real softly here or I’m going to ruffle some feathers for sure. That’s OK — I like that. That’s how things get accomplished. However, some of my readers may be surprised at where I stand. The idea of my fifth-grade teacher carrying a loaded gun would terrify me, she was dangerous enough with a big three-sided wooden yardstick.

To start with, no civilian is a good substitute for highly trained law enforcement officers or an equally highly trained civilian contract operator. The concept of putting that kind of responsibility in the hands every teacher with a simple concealed carry permit is beyond ridiculous.
