I’ve found there are three things that get bass moving: Water temperature, water levels and bait. Any one of these factors may have a direct impact on another, but when you find one of these things changing in your favorite spots, you can almost be sure that the bass will be moving.
With all the rains we have received, the water levels have come up a lot. Okeechobee is at 14 feet. Local lakes that I fish are up 18 inches or more; the lake where we fished our last tournament (Lake Hernando) was up more than 2 feet. With water on the rise like this, bass will move. Whether the baitfish start to move to shallower spots because of the rising water, or the temperature becomes cooler in shallow water, higher water levels caused by rain will definitely put the bass in motion.
