With oppressive heat during the day, we planned something a little different: Tarpon under the U.S. 41 bridges after dark. The one problem — how the heck were we supposed to fish with the enticing aroma of downtown Punta Gorda’s restaurants drifting up our nostrils? Easy solution. Dinner at sunset, fishing after dinner.
We wanted to keep an eye on the water, so Hurricane Charley’s seemed like the perfect spot. This eatery occupies the building Benedetto’s once did, and there’s a fantastic view of the river mouth and the sun that sets over it.
