Wild return

Take a good look at this photo, taken in the Picayune Strand just a few miles east of Naples. Here we have a Florida panther facing the photographer while a Florida black bear and her cub amble away in the background.

The number of adult panthers in the wild is estimated to be fewer than 200. The bear population is higher, with perhaps 4,000 in the state, but that’s still a fairly small number. The chances of getting both in a single photo would have to be pretty small.
